Discover Gugu Chicken

If you’re craving crispy Korean-style fried chicken in Bangkok, Gugu Chicken is the kind of place that instantly feels worth the trip. Tucked away at 25, 3 ถนน สุขุมวิท 101/1 Bang Chak, Phra Khanong, Bangkok 10260, Thailand, this casual diner has quietly built a reputation among locals who take their fried chicken seriously. I first stopped by after hearing repeated praise in neighborhood reviews, and after several visits, I can say the buzz isn’t random-it’s earned.

The menu leans heavily into Korean fried chicken, but it’s not a one-note experience. You’ll find classic soy garlic wings, spicy gochujang-glazed drumsticks, and extra-crispy boneless bites served with pickled radish and dipping sauces. The cooking process is what sets it apart. Like many authentic Korean kitchens, they use a double-frying technique. Food scientists and culinary experts, including those referenced by the Korean Food Promotion Institute, explain that double frying removes excess moisture from the skin while keeping the meat juicy inside. That’s exactly what happens here. The crust shatters lightly when you bite into it, yet the chicken stays tender and flavorful.

On my second visit, I brought a friend who used to work in a hotel kitchen in Bangkok. He immediately noticed the texture and balance of seasoning. The soy garlic glaze wasn’t overly sweet, and the spicy option delivered heat without overwhelming the natural flavor of the meat. We ordered a mixed platter to test consistency, and every piece came out evenly cooked. That kind of consistency tells you something about their kitchen standards and oil temperature control-details that matter in professional food preparation.

Beyond chicken, the menu also includes Korean street food favorites like tteokbokki, kimchi fried rice, and cheese corn. These sides aren’t afterthoughts. The kimchi fried rice, for instance, uses properly fermented kimchi, which gives it a tangy depth rather than a flat sourness. Fermented foods have been widely studied for their probiotic benefits, and while this is comfort food first, it’s nice knowing there’s real culinary tradition behind it. According to the World Health Organization, safe fermentation practices can enhance both flavor and food safety, and Gugu Chicken seems to respect those traditional methods.

The location in Bang Chak makes it accessible yet slightly removed from the tourist-heavy parts of Sukhumvit. That gives it a more neighborhood-diner vibe. You’ll see families sharing large trays, students chatting over soda and fried chicken, and office workers stopping in for takeaway. Service is straightforward and friendly. Orders come out quickly, but not so fast that you suspect shortcuts. During peak dinner hours, there can be a short wait, which honestly adds to the sense that you’ve found a place locals genuinely enjoy.

Online reviews frequently mention portion size, and I agree with the consensus: it’s generous. One full order can easily serve two people, especially if you add sides. Prices are reasonable for Bangkok, particularly given the quality and portion size. While I can’t verify every single supply source they use, the freshness of the ingredients and the clean dining area inspire confidence. Food safety is clearly taken seriously; the open kitchen layout allows you to see part of the preparation process, which builds trust.

What makes this spot stand out isn’t just crunch or spice. It’s the balance. The seasoning, the sauces, the texture, and even the plating all work together. In a city filled with fried chicken options-from global chains to trendy fusion spots-this diner keeps things focused and authentic. Whether you’re exploring new locations in Phra Khanong or specifically hunting for Korean comfort food, Gugu Chicken delivers a reliable, satisfying experience that feels both casual and carefully executed.

  • Coming for almost night craving. The place has private seating heading to the road, a good option for those going by themselves. I ordered kimmari that came out a little bit oily but was still kind of ok type. Also I order sikhye, didn't satisfy my expectation. But other menu options are good to choose.

  • I love this place! Amazing chicken and great and friendly staff! Best fried chicken I’ve had in Bangkok so far

  • Not bad. The kimchi fried rice was about 169 or something. It was good and tasted nice but the price was a bit high for the amount of food you get. It was a small portion which I finished in around 4 minutes. Rice is super cheap so please make it bigger, it won't cost much. Overall a good experience. Also they don't accept cash so I don't think I will return

  • Came here for dinner with a friend. Chicken taste good but staff didn't recommend the promotion. Only found out about it after finishing our meal. But overall is still good.
